FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator do I use to work out how big my gold position should be?

Use the position size calculator when you know your risk in dollars and your stop distance in pips. It converts those into lots for gold, where one standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01. The output depends on the stop you choose and the risk amount you are willing to lose, so decide both before you open the tool.

What is the difference between the pip value calculator and the profit calculator?

The pip value calculator tells you what one pip is worth at your lot size, which for gold is 0.01 of a dollar per ounce move. The profit calculator takes that further and prices a whole move from entry to exit. Use pip value for stop placement and profit for target planning; both depend on lot size and the prices you enter.

When should I reach for the margin calculator instead of position size?

Use the margin calculator when the question is whether your account can hold a position at all, not how much you risk. It shows the deposit locked by a given lot size at the applicable leverage cap, for example about $85.50 for 0.10 lots. Position size answers a different question: how much you lose if the stop is hit.

How do pivot points fit into a gold trading plan?

Pivot points give you reference levels for the session, calculated from the prior high, low and close, and the pivot points tool lays them out for gold. They are markers for where price has reacted before, not signals. How useful they are depends on the session you trade and whether the market is trending or ranging that day.

Do the calculators account for the peso conversion and my broker's costs?

No. The calculators return dollar figures for gold, and the peso equivalent depends on the conversion rate your bank or GCash gives you that day. Broker costs also sit outside them: the spread, commission and swap on your account are set by your broker, not by us, and you should read them on your own contract specifications.
